The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, from Ilaje constituency 1, has resigned his position as the Deputy Speaker.
He disclosed his intent to resign his position owing to the recent political power sharing mechanism and arrangement in the State.

According to a statement published on his social media platforms on 3rd June, 2025, detailing his resignation, Akinruntan said:
“It’s with gratitude and humility that I announce my resignation as Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, effective today.”
“After due consultation and careful consideration, I have decided to step down due to personal reasons, which align with the conventional arrangement in power sharing of elective positions in the State.”
“I express my profound gratitude to my fellow members for the trust they reposed in me during my tenure. It has been an honour to serve under the leadership of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and currently, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, both create a platform for effective governance and collaboration.”
“As I exit this office, I remain committed to serving the people of my constituency and Ondo State at large. With over 10 years of experience in the House, I am confident that my expertise will continue to benefit our state. I look forward to continuing my service until 2027.”
“Thank you and may God bless Ondo State.”
For the same reason, the House Majority Leader, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi from Owo constituency 1 also stepped down, citing the recent power sharing arrangement in the state as reason.
They disclosed their resolve to step down at the plenary sitting held today and presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji.
While Ogunmolasuyi was replaced with Ose constituency lawmaker, Hon. Olatunji Oshati, Akinruntan was replaced with another member representing Okitipupa constituency 11, Hon. Ololade Gbegudu. Akinruntan who is from the same local government area as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, couldn’t have resigned if not for the recent developments that emerged with Ayedatiwa’s emergence.
