The lawmaker representing the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, has refuted claims made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alade/Atoshin ward, represented by Mr. Sangotunsi Tokunbo and Comr. Ojo Adegunleka. They alleged that his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) occurred without the party’s knowledge. Hon. Akingbaso described this narrative as a fabrication by self-serving individuals intent on distorting facts and sowing confusion among constituents.
In a statement released through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Pharm. Femi Adebayo, on June 2, 2025, the lawmaker clarified that his defection was done with the full knowledge and acknowledgment of the party leadership, including the Local Government Chairman and the Ward Chairman, in accordance with party protocols.

“The assertion that the ward’s PDP leadership condemned my defection as ‘unethical’ or ‘self-serving’ is a blatant falsehood. My defection was officially announced on the floor of the House of Representatives on May 28, 2025, citing the ongoing crisis within the PDP, and has been formally documented with the party leadership.”
“We challenge the authors of the misleading press release, falsely attributed to Mr. Sangotunsi Tokunbo and Comr. Ojo Adegunleka, to provide evidence supporting their unfounded allegations. My move to the APC is a strategic decision aimed at better serving the people of Idanre/Ifedore, aligning with a platform that enhances my ability to deliver critical projects, such as the multi-million naira civic center in Idanre.”
“We urge the residents of Alade/Atoshin Ward, Idanre Local Government, and the entire Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency to reject this divisive propaganda and support my continued efforts to advance our communities’ development under the APC.”
“My commitment to transformative initiatives remains steadfast, and I am confident in my ability to deliver progress for all,” he concluded.
