Controversial musician, Darlington Okoye (Akpi), popularly known as Speed Darlington, is scheduled to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons on Friday (today) over his claim of having had carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl during a live Instagram video.
This was contained in a summon letter addressed to Darlington by the agency Head of Cybercrime Response Team, Ngamaraju Mangzha, a copy of which was shared on Facebook on Thursday.
You will recall that Darlington had in an Instagram video admitted to defiling a 15-year-old girl.
In the video, which our correspondent watched on Thursday, Darlington narrated an incident that he said occurred about 10 years ago at a hotel where he claimed to have slept with a 15-year-old girl who was a virgin, resulting in bloodied sheets.
He stated that he had to pay N2,000 to the hotel workers to have the sheets changed, expressing his disdain for working for anyone, especially in a hotel, by saying, “Before they could come to change the sheets for me, I had to give N2,000.”
He added, “Because the thing is somehow, to tell an adult to come and clean blood that I brought out of the body of a 15-year-old girl.
I can never work for anybody, lai lai. I only work for myself.”
The incident, which he narrated in Igbo, prompted swift reactions from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and NAPTIP.
Following the condemnation that trailed the video, Darlington in another video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, claimed the viral story was nothing more than a publicity stunt, crafted to promote his latest music release.
He also apologised to his fans and anyone who found the video offensive.
Meanwhile, NAPTIP said the actions described by the musician in the video contradicted the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2015 and the Cybercrime Act 2015.
The letter read in part, “We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having sexual acts with an underage girl.
“Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admission and degrading commentary concerning minors.”
“You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview regarding the alleged actions on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 9:00 am at the NAPTIP Headquarters, 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, FCT, Abuja.”
The agency concluded that it would not hesitate to take legal action against Darlington if he failed to honour its invitation.
“Please, be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough enquiry into the matter and failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action,” the letter concluded.
Citizen Rapporteur understands that this is not the first time Darlington has been embroiled in controversy regarding his alleged interactions with minors.
In 2022, Darlington had in an Instagram Live revealed an altercation he had with a neighbour who accused him of getting too close to a 16-year-old girl.
Similarly, in 2023, the singer got many talking following his search for a girlfriend who he claimed must be between the ages of 16 and 20.
