Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has continued to push harder for a strong and united opposition which can unseat President Bola Tinubu.
As part of his subtle moves, Atiku visited Former Osun State Governor and Former Minister of Interior under the immediate past Buhari-led administration, Rauf Aregbesola, at his Ilesa residence in Osun State today.

Although the visit was to be a courtesy visit ahead of the coronation of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, sources privy to the meeting between the duo however hinted that the visit was more than a courtesy visit.
“This is not just a visit—it’s a strategic consultation. Atiku is building bridges and Aregbesola is a key player in forming a strong alternative political coalition for 2027,” a source revealed.
Atiku in company of Namadi Sambo, a former vice president of Nigeria under the Jonathan-led Administration, visited Aregbesola with a view to luring him into the coalition plan of opposition parties.
Aregbesola had fallen out with President Bola Tinubu, his mentor and political ally, few months to the 2022 Osun gubernatorial election, a move which analysts said was instrumental to the defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls.
On Tuesday, the former Interior Minister told a group of his supporters in Ilesa to get ready as he will soon leave the APC.
Whether today’s meeting with Atiku would consummate into a political alliance is however left for time to decide.
