Nigeria’s former vice president and presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly extended an invitation to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last presidential election, to be his running mate in 2027.
Atiku, a serial contestant for the apex seat of the country has reportedly agreed to serve a one-term tenure of four years if he could wrestle power from President Bola Tinubu in 2027, and afterwards relinquish power to the South.

Sources privy to a meeting held in the United Kingdom confirmed the ongoing schemings and realignments among top opposition figures in the country.
According to the sources, Atiku has agreed to reduce the parol agreement into writing, while Obi has craved more time to finalise consultations with his key supporters.
Should the agreement materialise, this would once again bring the two politicians together, just like they both ran on the same ticket in 2019.
Meanwhile, the sources also disclosed that both politicians may dump the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as well as the Labour Party (LP) for a relatively new party to actualise their plans.
Both politicians are considering running on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), since the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been infiltrated by the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
Some of their footsoldiers have started consulting the ADC leadership and may abandon their current parties should the crises therein persist.
It would be recalled that in March, Atiku, Obi, Nasir El-Rufai – former Kaduna State governor– and other politicians came together to form a new opposition front to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Fingers are however crossed as events continue to unfold in the coming days.
