In a sheer display of unprofessionalism, men of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly gunned down a 400-level student of Kwararafa University, Benue State,
The university undergraduate, simply identified as Ella, was shot by policemen while carrying out a stop-and-search operation around Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi, Benue State.

A human rights activist privy to the incident, Ukan Kurugh, said the victim was in the vehicle when officers attached to the Makurdi E Division discharged their weapons, with a bullet fatally striking her.
Kurugh described the killing as “another unacceptable loss of innocent life” and demanded justice for the slain student.
Efforts to get the reaction of Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, for comments remains unproductive as the Police spokesperson neither picked calls nor responded to text message requesting her comment as of the time of filing this report.
This unfortunate incident is just one out of many of such bizarre acts perpetrated by men of the Nigerian Police.
Last week, it was reported that a woman had accused officers of the Nigeria Mobile Police (MOPOL) of brutally assaulting her Ghanaian-German husband during a stop-and-search operation along the boundary road between Edo State and Agbor, Delta State.
In a video obtained by newsmen, the distraught woman recounted the traumatic incident, stating that her husband was visiting Nigeria for the first time to celebrate with her family in their hometown.
Meanwhile the couple was travelling back to Lagos with other family members when the alleged abuse occurred.
“We were on our way back to Lagos in a family car when we were stopped by policemen — MOPOL officers,” she said in the video.
“They said it was a stop-and-search operation. They checked our luggage thoroughly and found nothing incriminating.”
However, she explained that during the search, officers found a piece of clothing resembling military camouflage in her husband’s bag, which they claimed was an army uniform.
