A viciously violent mob in Edo State has committed more than ten people to burning fire after accusing them of being kidnappers. The incident took place in Uromi, where the victims who were reportedly hunters were stopped for a routine search by local vigilantes while travelling from Rivers State to Kano. In the course of the search, weapons including guns and machetes were discovered, as well as a dog and other personal belongings. The House of Representatives has on Thursday acceleratedly passed for second reading a bill seeking to bar individuals above 60 years from contesting for the offices of President and Governor in Nigeria. The bill, which was sponsored by Rep. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, proposes amendments to the 1999 Constitution to amend eligibility requirements for these key political positions. The bill says: Presidential and gubernatorial candidates must not be older than 60 years at the time of contesting. Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in their chosen field of study.
