The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, officially launched the distribution of agricultural inputs to 1,000 farming households, including displaced residents of Mallam Dunari and their host communities. The event took place on Monday, 16th, June, at the Government House in Damaturu and was attended by development partners from the European Union and officials from the Swiss government.

The initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and support the livelihoods of vulnerable families. Beneficiaries will receive various farming tools and supplies tailored to the season: insecticides, sprayers, hoes, and cutlasses for the rainy season, while dry-season farmers will be provided with water pumps, improved seeds, fertilizers, and other essential inputs.
“The people of Mallam Dunari are the only community remaining to be resettled; each beneficiary will go home with insecticide, knapsack sprayers, hoes, and cutlasses for rainy season farming, while dry-season farmers will get water pumps, improved seeds for onions, tomatoes, cabbage, pepper, rice, lettuce, and carrots, knapsack sprayers and watering pipes, fertilisers, among other things,” Buni said.
The governor stated that the Yobe government, in collaboration with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, has provided additional farming inputs and livestock to 2,000 families. He also highlighted that farming communities have received training in animal husbandry and will be supported with small ruminants to help restore and sustain their livelihoods.
Therefore, Buni emphasized that his administration has invested more than N4 billion in agricultural empowerment programs spanning 178 wards across the state. He also pointed out that the government has acquired tractors, fertilizers, and other essential inputs to boost productivity and strengthen food security.
