    The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo State Branch, has today commenced an indefinite strike to press home its consistent demand for the implementation of judicial and financial autonomy.

    JUSUN, Ondo State branch, in Its notice of Industrial Action to its functionaries, said:

    Dear Esteemed Members,

    We, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo State Branch, hereby notify you that we will commence our planned industrial action starting today, June 13, 2025.

    This decision follows the expiration of the 7-day ultimatum issued to the Government of Ondo State on June 4, 2025, and the lack of response from the government to address the reneged parts of the agreements outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on May 20, 2015.

    We direct all our members to stay off duty starting from today, June 13, 2025, till further directive, and to adhere strictly to the industrial action guidelines.

    We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all our members during this period.

    The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Ondo State Branch, had last week written Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, issuing a 7days ultimatum on the need for him to avert the strike imminent strike by championing the immediate implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on May 20, 2015, regarding the release of funds to the Ondo State judiciary by the State Government in line with judiciary financial autonomy.

    In a letter jointly signed by Comrade Afolabi Oluwafemi, JUSUN State Chairman, and Comrade Alade Kehinde, JUSUN Secretary, the Union observed with regret, the failure of the state government to implement the MOU.

    The notice of industrial dispute reads, “Regrettably, the state government has reneged on certain parts of the agreements outlined in the MOU. Attached herewith is a copy of the Memorandum of understanding signed on May 20, 2015,

    “As you may recall, our union embarked on industrial action to enforce the financial independence of the Ondo State Judiciary, following which the state government resolved to support and comply with the principle of a financially Independence of judiciary in line with the principle of separation of powers. However, the government has flagrantly reneged on some of the agreements in the MOU.”

    “This continuous refusal by the state government to honor these agreements has had adverse effects on our members. Having waited aimlessly since 2015, we hereby issue a 7-calendar day ultimatum to the government to honor the reneged parts of the agreements in the MOU within a period of 7 calendar days upon receipt of an letter.

    “Failure to comply within this timeframe will leave us with no option but to resume our suspended industrial action, which may result in industrial disharmony between the government of Ondo State and the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Ondo State Branch

    “We urge the government to take immediate action to fulfill its obligations and implement the MOU to avoid any adverse consequences,” JUSUN concluded.
