Renowned public interest lawyer and human rights activist, Professor Mike Ozekhome, SAN, has recounted his harrowing experience with kidnappers in 2013.
He spoke about the traumatic ordeal during an interview with Channels Television’s Hard Copy yesterday, aiming to shed light on Nigeria’s security situation.

In his words:
“The irony is that I was not targeted; they operated randomly in the hot afternoon around past 2 PM on the 23rd of August, 2013.”
“I was released on the 12th of September, three weeks later. It is shocking that such an event could occur on a government highway near a police post or a police station on the way to Ekpoma, where four policemen coming to my aid were brutally gunned down in my presence.”
“The kidnappers made it clear that they didnโt profile me; they didnโt know who I was. It was about two days later when the news filtered in that they realized who I was. They came to me and said they didnโt know it was me they had kidnapped. โHad we known, we would have dropped you back because you have been fighting for the common man,โโ he concluded.
