Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed his enthusiasm for joining a new political party, signaling a shift from his previous association with Governor Ademola Adeleke and the established political platforms in the state.

During a gathering of his Omoluabi Caucus in Ilesa on Monday, Aregbesola shared with his supporters that discussions have been successful regarding the establishment of a new political front at the national level.

He confidently stated, “The party is ready.” This initiative reflects a commitment to exploring new political avenues and fostering positive change within the political landscape.

“We are not just registering, we will be joining a new party from Abuja,” he stated.

He urged members of his movement to come out en masse for the coronation of the new Owa of Ijesaland this Friday as a demonstration of their political relevance and numerical strength. “Our allies are coming. Let us show our political popularity in the state,” he added.

The move signals Aregbesola’s official break from both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun, led by Governor Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), with which he had been aligned for over a decade.

The former Minister of Interior had previously fallen out with his successor, Gboyega Oyetola, and later with his former political mentor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The internal crisis within the Osun APC was widely seen as a major factor in the party’s defeat in the 2022 gubernatorial election.

Political analysts believe Aregbesola’s latest move is aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2026 governorship election, potentially forming a coalition that could disrupt the existing political order in the state.

As developments unfold, attention is now shifting to the potential unveiling of the new party and the figures expected to align with Aregbesola in what may be a game-changing political realignment in Osun and beyond.
