Veteran Nigerian musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has described as false reports claiming he gave up the ghost. He said he is alive, healthy, and full of life.

Obey revealed this on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, through a video given viral publicity on social media, where he addressed the false reports with a spirited gospel rendition in English, Yoruba and Pidgin.

According to him, the rumour went viral online on Monday, castng panic in the heart of fans and followers.

In the video, the 83-year-old singer sang: “Satan, you don lose o… Na lie lie you dey talk,” before stating clearly: “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive.”

Obey’s personal aide, Tope Olukole, also spoke to the rumour in an interview with TVC News. He confirmed that the legendary musician was in good health and even recently attended the 50th birthday party of his son-in-law.

“Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving!” Olukole said.

The false news of Obey’s death sparked tributes and mourning posts online until the singer debunked it himself. His public appearance came barely a month after he celebrated his 83rd birthday.
