Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu on the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State.
According to the former senator, a declaration of state of emergency is the only to the political crisis in Rivers, judicial and political solutions having failed.

His words, “The State of emergency declared on Rivers State remains the only constitutional instrument to restore law and order in the State. Judicial, political and even spiritual solutions failed to bring the gladiators to peace.”
He further observed that the declaration is imperative as the affected state is one of engine rooms of the Nigerian economy.
“The importance of Rivers State to the economic stability of the country cannot be ignored,” Sani affirmed.
Recall that Rivers State has been a hotbed for political crisis since October 2023 following a fallout between the state’s immediate past governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the incumbent governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.
The crisis reached its crescendo on Monday when the Rivers State House of Assembly served an impeachment notice on Governor Fubara.
However, President Tinubu waded into the matter today by declaring a six-month state of emergency in the state, accompanied by a suspension of the state governor, deputy governor and the state assembly for the said period.
