As the 2027 general elections approach, with roughly 23 months until the polls, there are notable shifts and alliances forming among opposition parties and key figures in Nigeria.
Recently, former Kaduna State governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Peter Obi visited Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed, signaling potential strategic moves within the opposition.

Adebayo Adewole, the SDP’s presidential candidate from the 2023 elections, confidently asserted that President Tinubu will not secure re-election in 2027. He emphasized that the SDP is poised to produce the next President of Nigeria.
During a Friday appearance on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Adewole stated, “Tinubu is going to be removed from power, that one is sure, and there would be an SDP president.”
Adebayo also expressed his intention to run for the presidency in 2027, asserting his belief that he will win the party’s nomination, despite the recent influx of notable defectors.
He remarked, “I don’t worry about that; everybody who is coming knows I will run in 2027. Any coward who will feel threatened by people coming to his party cannot be president.”
