The long-held aspiration of the Idanre community to establish a tertiary institution is moving closer to reality, thanks to the dedicated advocacy of Hon. Festus Akingbaso, the representative for the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. His recent efforts to establish a Federal ICT Institute in the area have gained significant traction.
Akingbaso, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation, introduced the bill for the ICT Institute on October 31, 2023. His goal is to transform the narrative that has long portrayed Idanre as underdeveloped due to the lack of educational institutions.

During a town hall meeting at the Owa of Idanre’s palace last year, Akingbaso received praise from key figures in the constituency, including the late Owa of Idanre, Oba Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, for his commitment to initiatives that elevate the community’s status.
On March 12, 2025, a report from the National Assembly confirmed that the ICT Institute bill successfully passed its second reading and is now moving to the committee stage for further review and amendments.
For years, Idanre has struggled with the stigma of not having its own tertiary institution. This recent progress is seen as a significant breakthrough amidst numerous previous attempts to attract such educational developments.
A statement from Akingbaso’s media team highlighted that:
“The people of Idanre Local Government have long sought a tertiary institution in their community. This desire spans all levels of society, from royalty to everyday citizens. Many efforts have been made, both individually and collectively, to realize this vision.”
“On October 31, 2023, Hon. Festus O. Akingbaso presented a bill to establish an ICT institute in Idanre, Ondo State. This initiative was met with enthusiasm, particularly by the late Kabiyesi, Owa of Idanre, Dr. Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, during the Fessy Speaks program, where Akingbaso provided feedback to constituents at the Owa’s Palace.”
“Fast forward to March 12, 2025, when Hon. Akingbaso moved the motion for the second reading of the Bill for the establishment of the Federal Institute of Information Communication Technology, Idanre, Ondo State (HB. 783). The bill was seconded and referred to the House Committee on Information Technology for further legislative action.”
“During the second reading, the bill underwent discussion, amendments, and critiques, marking a crucial stage in the legislative process. Notably, a similar bill is being sponsored by Hon. Kareem T. Abisodun from ATISBO Federal Constituency, which may expedite the establishment of the institute in Idanre.”
“Listed as HB. 783, this bill represents a significant milestone in the quest for higher education in Idanre. With ongoing support from stakeholders and the legislative process in motion, the people of Idanre are one step closer to realizing their dream.”
“The audiovisual presentation of this development is available on NASSTV.”
