President Bola Tinubu has on Thursday remembered the heroes of the June 12 struggle by bestowing national honours on Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, the late wife of Chief MKO Abiola, and Humphrey Nwosu, former chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC), among other recipients.
Tinubu conferred the national honours on them during his June 12 address to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja.
Other prominent Nigerians, including some who have passed away, were honoured by the President on Thursday. They include Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Pa. Alfred Rewane, Chief Bola Ige, Pa. Reuben Fasoranti, Senator Abu Ibrahim, Senator Ameh Ebute and Ken Saro-Wiwa.
Meanwhile, the presidential pardon of Late Ken Saro Wiwa’s alleged offences against the State by President Bola Tinubu has been criticized by people who felt Ken Saro Wiwa never committed any offence against the State as he was only persecuted for no just course.
Other honorees are Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (Rtd.), Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, Alao Aka Bashorun, Chief Frank Kokori, Fredrick Fasehun, Professor Festus Iyayi, Alhaja Sawaba Gambo, Dr. Edwin Madunagu, Dr. Alex Ibru, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, Senator Polycarp Nwite, Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo, Bagauda Kaltho, Chima Ubani, Emma Ezeazu, Bamidele Aturu, Dr. John Yima Sen, Saturday Dobee, Nordu Eawo, Daniel Gbooko, Paul Levera, Felix Nuate, Baribor Bera, John Kpuine, and Barinem Kiobel.
The President also honoured Prof. Wole Soyinka (GCON) and Mobolaji Akinyemi (CFR).
