In the spirit of this year’s Ere Festival, the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom and Paramount Ruler of Mahinland in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Ṣẹgun Williams Akinyomi, has offered free healthcare to his subjects as well as empowerment programme for widows in his domain.
Information on this development was contained in a statement signed and issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the palace, Akingbade Toluwa-Jolomi.
The statement read,“This year, however, Oba Ṣẹgun Williams Akinyomi introduced a transformative element, prioritising healthcare and economic support for vulnerable groups.
“The medical outreach, led by former Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, saw a team of medical professionals and volunteers providing essential services to hundreds of residents.”
Revealing the source of funding for the initiative, Toluwa-Jolomi said the monarch, prominent sons and daughters of Mahinland as well as supporters of the great kingdom from far and wide donated heavily for the success of the project.
“The initiative was made possible through generous donations from supporters within and outside Ondo State, alongside the monarch’s personal contribution of medical equipment, drugs and supplies.”
The king also doled out cash and material items to widows in a bid to provide them succour.
“In a touching display of compassion, the festival also include a widow’s empowerment programme, offering financial and material support to uplift women in the community. This initiative aligns with Oba Akinyomi’s vision of fostering inclusive growth and solidarity among the people of Mahinland,” the statement added.
Lauding the king’s thoughtful consideration and humane leadership in bringing to life the initiative, Toluwa-Jolomi said, “The Amapetu’s innovative approach merging tradition with impactful humanitarian efforts has set a new standard for the Ere Festival, ensuring it remains a beacon of unity, progress and cultural pride.”
In his description, Toluwa-Jolomi said the Ere Festival is an age-long cultural celebration which brings together all indigenes of the kingdom and spotlights the richness of her heritage.
“The Ere Festival is a cherished cultural celebration where the Amapetu performs sacred rites, offering prayers and sacrifices to the deities for the prosperity and protection of Mahinland and its people.
“As the festival progresses, sons and daughters of Mahinland, both at home and in the diaspora, are expected to gather in celebration of their shared heritage,” the statement ended.
