For the past four months, I have grappled with how best to express my appreciation for a man who has profoundly impacted my life and the lives of countless others. His unwavering commitment to transformation, social change, and philanthropy has brought hope to many, often without seeking recognition. It is his destiny to illuminate darkened paths, provide hope to forgotten generations, and evoke happiness through genuine utilitarianism, as articulated by John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham.

I have dedicated a section of my latest book, “In the Eye of the Storm: Prophet (Dr.) Ebenezer Akinsunlola At 50,” to highlight his remarkable contributions. The preface was penned by his close ally and brother, Professor Olugbenga Oke-Samuel, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria. Before its public presentation in America last year, I visited his office in Akungba, where we reminisced about their shared experiences in Idanre, a hilly community in Ondo State, Nigeria. He reflected on their days playing football and debating various topics. He emphasized that Prophet Akinsunlola’s ministry did not emerge overnight; rather, he has been dedicated to God’s work since his humble beginnings in Idanre, mentoring young people with his musical talents and gospel.

His upbringing was profoundly influenced by selfless parents who were farmers and traders. Notably, his elder brother, Mr. Rotimi Akinsunlola (now a pastor), played a significant role in their education, particularly in Mathematics.

Pastor Rotimi Akinsunlola shared insights about their father, James Olofinsanmabo Akinsunlola, who lost both parents at a young age and sought refuge with relatives. This experience instilled in him a sense of resilience and determination. He worked tirelessly, becoming an employer and a successful trader known for selling roofing sheets in Idanre, earning the nickname “Jeemisi Olipaanon.”

Despite being under 20 when he built his first house, he was already recognized as “Odomode olowo,” the wealthy young man. While little is known about his religious affiliations, he was an Anglican Christian, and many of his contemporaries had ties to traditional worship.

Their mother, Dorcas Osebolaji Akinsunlola (née Adesida), was a respected trader and a woman of virtue who loved her children deeply. She transitioned from the Anglican Church to Pentecostal churches, which ultimately benefited her children. The family home is located in Surulere, Idale quarters, Idanre, with additional homes in Jigbokin and near the Royal Lodge en route to Yaba. Their parents instilled a philosophy of education in their children, emphasizing the importance of knowledge and personal development.

Professor Oke describes Prophet Akinsunlola as an apostle of the people, dedicated to peace and shared growth among God’s children. His commitment to community service is evident through numerous projects that have alleviated hardship, including poverty alleviation initiatives and donations of classroom structures to schools. His recent contributions include a donation to the Local Authority Primary School in Otapete, Idanre, which received commendations from the Ondo State Ministry of Education.

Akinsunlola has also implemented various empowerment programs, providing entrepreneurship training, grants, and scholarships. I am a beneficiary of his scholarship, which transformed my life. Meeting him was a pivotal moment, akin to the biblical encounter between Zacheus and Jesus, where lives were forever changed.

Within his family, Akinsunlola is a devoted husband, father, and pastor. His integrity is recognized even by United States authorities, who have noted his exemplary character. Born 52 years ago to Late Pa Olofinsanmabo and Late Osebolaji Akinsunlola, he began his journey in the church as a Sunday School student, eventually becoming a juvenile instructor. His early experiences included various roles in church activities, from a trumpeter to a storekeeper.

Despite facing challenges, including riding Okadas to support his education, he persevered and graduated with honors from the University of Ilorin. His promise to God to share his blessings with others has defined his life.

Akinsunlola has received pastoral training from some of the most respected leaders in the field. His ministry, Worldwide Prayer Centre International, has made significant strides in winning souls for Christ. His “Rest for Idanre” crusade in 2021 was particularly impactful, with many testimonies of healing.

As he celebrates his 52nd birthday today, I wish to acknowledge his invaluable contributions to humanity. Though he may not seek recognition, the lives he has touched speak volumes. May he continue to be blessed in all his endeavors.
